4TH GRADE MUSIC CLASS

Welcome to 4th grade! This year we will be singing a variety of songs to go with our seasons and activities in the 4th grade, and we will be spending much of our time learning to read notes on the staff using the treble clef, and playing recorders! Please check out the information about recorders below.
I'm looking forward to our journey this year, and hope that you are ready to learn, sing, discover, and have fun!

RECORDERS

Recorders are a special part of a well-rounded music education. They are wonderful instruments with a long and rich history, and they provide students with an ideal way to experience the joy of instrumental performance (and they are a lot of fun!). Recorders were invented nearly 400 years ago!
Beginning in October, students will receive their recorder that we will learn throughout the entire year. Students will learn concepts such as reading notes on a staff, corresponding the letter name with a specific fingering, holding notes out for the correct number of counts, and how to care for an instrument.

The recorders that we use are plastic, and each homeroom class will receive a different colored recorder to keep them separated. Students will be able to take home their recorders over Winter Break and at the end of the school year, but the instruments will otherwise be kept in the music room for practice. The students will perform on their recorders during the 4th Grade Spring Concert on March 16th in the Reilly Gymnasium.
